I think the key point it makes is that at 1J it's not a gun it's a toy and as a toy you do not look at it from a airarm or firearms perspective. I had seen the practical Airsoft piece, looks well informed. I think this a better place for this discusion, as this is very much a UK issue.

I know the ease of modification is not the issue, but when you can pop into a shop, buy the BB gun then with a link and a resistor turn it into a 6 shot full auto burst at 1200 rpm, it does make you wonder where this will end up?Īll interesting stuff. Have tested on the bench with no BB's full auto and increased rate of fire to 1200 rpm. To be honest when using it I almost expect a knock on the door, even on semi auto you can squeeze rounds off at an incredible rate, sounds just like a machine gun. Great fun and even more so with the green laser attached. Yes have had the Drozd for a couple of weeks now. I know in my bones this is pointless but would just like to see the act that makes it clear. I can see regulations banning full auto in a firearm but cannot see one banning full auto in an Airweapon. As I understand it a gun of less than 6 / 12 Ft lbs powered by air or CO2 is classed as an airweapon. I do not think the type of projectile matters, so surely a full auto paintball gun should be illegal in the UK?įinally which includes the Drozd. So what about paintball guns which also fire on full auto? These have muzzle velocities of up to 10J. The main defence with Airsoft seems to be that at less than 1J they are toys and as such not or firearms? At which point you dont have to bother to read or attempt to understand the regulations! Presumably anyone fitting these is breaking the Law? However none of the suppliers mention this. , full auto is illegal in any weapon over 1ft lb muzzle energy.I keep reading this, and you are probably correct, however would still like to see the clauses that state it.Īirsoft BB guns fire on full auto, many as standard are 1J which I think is approx 1 ft lb? Springs to uprate this power are readily available and will take them to 2 or 3J. Bolt-action rifles, which use a manually operated cylinder to drive the cartridge into the rifle's chamber, are the most common type for hunting."Ī modded 11.5lbs ft semi auto (NEW 400 shot version) Drozd Blackbird, Check with a longer rifled barrel for decent accuracy and an obvious stock or hand grip to make it legaly a rifle and thus technically legal by UK law is quite appealing to me! The earliest muzzle-loading rifles were more difficult to load than smoothbore muskets, but the invention of metallic cartridges made possible the development of breech-loading mechanisms.

Rifled firearms date to at least the 15th century, when it was discovered that imparting a spin to the bullet improved its range and accuracy. Though usually applied to a weapon fired from the shoulder, the name can also refer to a rifled cannon. "Firearm whose barrel is rifled (i.e., has spiral grooves cut inside it to give a spin to the projectile). To become a rifle it seems that it must have a rifled barrel and a butt (for firing off the shoulder) according to Britanica The addition of a stock or forward handgrip is considered a design change that creates either a short-barreled rifle or any other weapon, and therefore such additions are generally only found on legal machine guns."Ĭan anyone help as to if this could apply to the UK too? Either of these additions technically create a legal non-pistol under the US National Firearms Act, as pistols are by definition designed to be fired with one hand. Most machine pistols have the ability to attach a shoulder stock (the Heckler & Koch VP70 would only fire single rounds unless the stock was attached) while others, such as the Beretta 93R, add a forward handgrip. While there are a number of machine pistols such as the GLOCK 18 and later models of the Mauser C96, these are rare the light weight, small size, and extremely rapid rates of fire of a machine pistol make them difficult to control, making the larger, heavier submachine gun a better choice in cases where the small size of a machine pistol is required. Micro-Uzi machine pistolA machine pistol is generally defined as a firearm designed to be fired with one hand, and capable of fully automatic or selective fire.

note-it says "Us Firarms law" not sure how that would be interpreted in the UK.
